Shelby Sue Shelton

Former music teacher Shelby Sue Shelton was found guilty of sexually abusing a 13-year-old female student multiple times during the 1990s. The victim, now 23, said that she thought she was in love with the teacher and only recently came to understand the true nature of the relationship.

Described by the prosecutor as "a ravenous sexual predator who kissed and fondled the young girl on at least 100 occasions," the 49-year-old Shelton was found guilty of all charges including two counts of having carnal knowledge of a child and two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.

Shelton testified that she was the real victim and what motivated her accuser was her desire to "spark a lesbian relationship of some sort." She also testified that, "there was love between (the victim) and me and I think it was an unrequited love. In her own way, she manipulated this farce to bring me back here."

Shelton, awaiting sentence while free on bond, could face up to 30 years in prison.
